Hotel Villa Angela - Room

"Molto bene!"

We stayed for 9 nights in April 2011 at this gem of a hotel. The hotel arranged our transfers for us efficiently and gave us a very warm welcome on our late arrival due to flight delays. We had a very comfortable standard room, much bigger than the norm for standard rooms, with a good terrace that had sun beds and a table - ideal for sunbathing on if you don't fancy the pool, and for sun downers watching the sun set over mount Etna. All the rooms face Etna and the views from them, and the hotels terrace, are truly stunning.
They provide an hourly shuttle bus down to Taormina itself - a short 5 minute journey - and we used this most days. Taormina is beautiful, the ancient churches and amphitheatre mingling alongside designer boutiques on the main street. For me the ancient architecture just winning the battle.
Do go to the Teatro Greco amphitheatre for the most amazing framed views of Mt Etna and the town. Go early to beat the crowds and the hot sun. Castelmola is worth a trip, also for the fantastic views - the Turrisi bar being an unusual place for a cold beer, and not for the shy!
When booking we also looked at the other hotels in the top 4 on trip advisor. Having visited them all briefly on this trip Villa Carlotta and El Jebel's locations and views are not a patch on Villa Angela's or Villa Ducale's, which are only 500 yards apart from each other. Villa Ducale seems slightly smaller and more intimate but has no pool and smaller room terraces than Villa Angela.
Also, based on our own experience the service at Villa Angela has been exceptional. Katharine and the team on reception are very welcoming, knowledgable and extremely helpful, enabling you to make the most of your trip. The other staff have also been without exception friendly, helpful and polite making our stay here a joy.
For my money Villa Angela pips the others mentioned to first place in terms of the all round package and service, a refreshing change from the surliness of the UK and the blandness of the larger hotel chains. An absolute delight.
