Taormina Film Festival 2008
The Film Festival 2008 will be held on June 15 to 21, in the Palazzo dei Congressi and in the famous Greek Theater of Taormina. The festival is an international film and short film competition, some of which are premieres, and will be having a retrospective component on past directors.
Every evening a "Taormina Arte Award for Cinematic Excellence" will be conferred to an international cinema celebrity who will have a tribute dedicated to her or him consisting of four movies that will be shown throughout the length of the Festival.
After the award ceremony, there will be a projection of a new movie, either a European or world premiere, on the giant screen of the Greek Theater, which for the occasion has been fitted with the latest in projection equipment and digital sound.
The competing films will be shown in the different rooms of the Palazzo dei Congressi: 12 international film productions, some of which will be world premieres. The competition films will be judged by an international jury that will award the "TaorminaFilmFest Awards" for the best film director, best leading actor, best leading actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, and best cinematographer.
Each feature movie will be preceded by a short film of international production competing for the "Award for the Best Short Film". An integral part of the festival is the ItaliaFilmFest: several awards will be given out to winners of this competition which is entirely dedicated to Italian cinema, in the superb setting of the Greek Theater.
