Villa Angela: a dream come true
While on tour with rock group Simple Minds in 1995, Jim Kerr the lead singer of the famous Scottish band arrived on this Mediterranean island and fell hopelessly in love not only with this most romantic destination, but also with the warmth of the Sicilian people and their passion for life. Aided and inspired by the vision of his friends, Antonio & Giovanni Chemi & Family, the dream of creating an intimate hotel where others could also come to enjoy the magic Mt Etna and the wonder of Taormina's Teatro Greco was born.
It is well known locally that from day one to it's final completion, the greatest attention to detail was used in the aim of creating a Villa with an ambiance that would befit it's unique position in Taormina by transmitting only the real essence of Sicilian life.
In line with this vision it is a fact that each and every material used in the construction of Villa Angela are typical and authentic to this part of the world. Taormina stone was used to build the structure for example. While equally the sculpted wrought iron and local chestnut wood that feature in all of our traditionally made furniture are only some examples of the distinctive Sicilian craftsmanship that contributes so much to Villa Angela. As expected perhaps, locally made Caltagirone ceramics in all manner of shape and colours are also scattered throughout and in doing so their effect combines the warm and friendly feeling of modern luxury with an ambiance of old style aristocratic Sicily.
Furthermore, this most elegant hotel in Taormina is in perfect symbiosis with the sumptuous nature surrounding it, due mainly of course to the generous sized terraces that are a feature in each of our rooms.
And with glass doors that act as wall sized windows featured throughout the hotel, it is possible to observe and relax most peacefully while marvelling at the stunning beauty of the surrounding area which of course includes a swimming pool - solarium, plus a sumptuous terrace restaurant where delicious Sicilian breakfasts can be served as the sun rises on Mount Etna. To complete it all with 50 species of plants that include olive, carob, citrus and almond trees as well as some of the worlds most scented flowers. We are more than confident that Hotel Villa Angela more than lives up to the original dream!
