"A sparkling gem!"
We ended our Sicily holiday by treating ourselves to three nights in the Hotel Villa Angela and indeed what a lovely treat it was.
We stayed in the Leonardo Da Vinci Suite which is massive and the spa bath is out of this world. All rooms however are spacious and lovely decorated as far as we could see and heard from fellow guests. The staff could not do enough for us and the whole place had a family feel about it. We did not exactly mingle with other guests partly as we stayed for a few nights but you quickly fall into place in a small and very friendly community. Just a nod of recognition and a smile was lovely. Anyone wanting a romantic getaway will be very happy there for sure.
The breakfast is fabulous and served on the terrace overlooking Taormina, nothing missing in my opinion. Lunch is then available at the same place (very convenient next -but not right next- to the lovely pool area), until 2.30 they offer pasta, salads, fish and meat dishes, after that you can get snacks such as toasties and salads. Very delicious!
As the hotel only has 25 or so rooms it does not offer evening meals other than on a Monday night. The menu is very similar to lunch, I still believe the pasta is where the chef's strenght is as we had a quibble with our fish and chicken main (slightly under) but this was taken off the bill straight away! So really not a complaint but rather a recommendation on the menu for new guests. They offer a shuttle bus on the hour into town and back but it is possible to walk down some steps which does not take more than 10 minutes. We only went one morning and lazily took the shuttle. A vast variety of restaurants can be found in the center and the shops are also plentiful. Other than that we can just thoroughly recommend Al Saraceno where we ate for the two other evenings of our stay. It is a five minute walk and you can sit on the terrace overlooking the whole bay, the food is outstanding and the staff are amazing.
So all in all everything you could wish for you will find in or just around Hotel Villa Angela! We certainly will be back!
